Hi all, I found your project through the DC forums and decided to join here also.
I'm a music composer with experience on various kinds of electronic music, with an interest towards soundtrack type work. Skyrim is easily among my favorite games. It has many things done right, and the soundtrack is one of them in my opinion. While many other things may take priority before music in a big undertaking such as this project, I found this a great opportunity to practise soundtrack composition.
I am currently working on some tracks meant exclusively for Atmora, and to the best of my abilities, mixing it in the similar way it was in Skyrim: subtle and not demanding attention of the player, but rather adding to the atmosphere of different environments.
Looking forward to showing you my works later, and hoping you will find at least some of it useful!

Welcome to Atmora, yaranik This is great! Background music was a hot topic for us last year, I and especially Hannes dedicated a lot of time to select free music from artists like Kevin MacLeod. Have you discussed this with Hannes already? Has he given some guidelines? Subtle and adding to the atmosphere is definitely the right direction. If I may expand on this: the way I see it, the atmosphere of Atmora would be eerie and mysterious, the land is mostly lifeless, haunted by all sorts of undead or otherwise supernatural creatures, with a civilization quite literally lost to time. Many secrets can be unraveled, and an epic undertone would definitely fit too. One idea was to have a set of eerie cries of ghosts as ambient music, but we had very little luck in finding such sounds on the web. More upbeat and/or faster paced stuff like tribal drums could also work, especially for fights. Additionally: the civilization was a warring, seafaring, pre-agricultural one, subsisting on hunting and fishing. It also had strong ties with the elements of nature, certain animals represented the gods they idolized, so definitely much more spiritual than current Nords, but also less civilized. Hopefully this info can be of good use to you, looking forward to your work. Perhaps I could link you a few songs we have selected so far so that you get an idea of what we found fitting?

Thanks anathem7x :-) Yes, he has told me what kind of environments and situations you are currently mostly looking music for. Thanks for the description you gave, this is also very helpful!
I've now also heard some of the music that you have picked so far, had some trouble finding a way to playback xwm files at first :-). I noticed that the music appears to be mono channel. Is stereo at all possible, like the music is in the main game?

Unfortunately I'm quite ignorant in regards to this, Hannes always worked with these files himself, doing conversions when necessary, I just helped in selecting the tracks, so you should probably ask him. If I had to take a guess, I'd say there's a good chance the channel can be changed from mono to stereo as part of the conversion process.

Hey yaranik! first of all, i am happy you found our original archive, this forum ;-) and then, i have to say you have a very nice, fitting avatar! To your question: sadly, i had to convert stereo music from recent formats back to mono channel with 44 100Hz, (EDIT:16bit) in that odd xwm formate. I used Audacity with a plugin for mp3 and a special conversion tool available at the nexus. Bethesda saved most file size by partly ripping of their textures and sound, and if you know the original tracks and if you know real quality sound and textures, it kind of makes you angry. Even more so, because first they compressed SSE (Skyrim Special Edition) Music even further!!! so the quality was even worse than in the 2011 game. Maybe you heard about it, fans have been so pissed, that there was a free update with textures and i bet also sound. so, yes, the tracks we can use with the Creation Kit engine are sadly just a shadow of their potential beauty, and the least is, we can sketch our idea of atmosphere with it, but sadly no dolby surround and multi channel effects. A pity when i think about the potential... still, we are happy to have our own music and style, thats much more important for the game experience as anyone would think at first glance.... yes, you see i am very happy you are here and we can talk about music ;-) anathem is right, we dedicated a bit time into this and so this is a big topic ;-) WELCOME ON BOARD YARANIK

Thanks Hannes!
It's quite sad if we have to turn everything into mono. The limitation comes from the Creation Kit? Is it only the dolby surround that was scrapped, or everything that has more than one channel? Odd how all the original music in SSE is stereo, but the developers didn't make the CK support it. I have been paying quite a lot of attention to the stereo mixing in the things I've done so far :-(
Yeah I've read how Bethesda compressed the sound effect quality for SSE, the change can be heard in anything that has relatively high frequencies involved, like the sound of picking up coins. I'm glad that they listened to the fans and decided to release the quality patch later :-)

everything is mono, because of technical reasons.

Hi everyone! I'm an italian student, i'm currently attending an Art school ( be gentle if sometimes i made grammar errors, english is not my primary language as you can see ) I like viking themed stuff, shamanic religion, the mountains, gregorian chants, RPGs, and stuff like that. i also like Skyrim. I played Skyrim for 4 years now and i think i fell in love with it. All i know about Atmora come from the Skyrim Lore, but seems like they preferred to keep it misterious and far from our sight... however, i'm excited to know there are people like you that wants to bring Atmora to the hands of the player. This is a very interesting project i really hope to be part of. I can serve the community doing Concept Art, Art works, textures ( made from photos directly taken by me, or even hand drawn ), and im a novice in 3d sculpting. The reason i started with 3d modelling is becuase i really want to see my drawings take life. i've already presented myself on the discord channel, everyone were so welcoming i felt home from the beginning. I've also already "took a job" about doing some concept art of sets of armors and weapons, but if everyone has something to do just ask!

Hey everyone! New member here, but I was introduced to the project thanks to Shinji's feature way back when.
I'm a 20 year-old Australian student and have always loved modding every game I can get my hands on, but I've also done some voice acting in mods such as Lordbound, VIGILANT and Fallout: The Frontier. I'm currently involved with the quest writing and lore team for Iliac Bay in Beyond Skyrim and would love to help with Atmora after coming across it again today. (I have experience in screenwriting for short films, but I'm not fussed about doing other tasks as well.)
Craftiian is my alias across the board and I've already jumped into the Discord, so let me know how I can help out. Cheers.

sounds great! lets do this. give me some keywords of interest, and i make sure to suggest you the channels in Slack and discord to join. Discord has more people, but slack is where the core team works most of the time. (except for parts of writing and music department)
